Fun sentence

Name of the activity: Fun phrase
Age of children and level: From 11 to 12 years old, Year 6
Skills of English they're going to practice: reading and use of English
Authoring tool: JMix

This activity enables motivated students to do revision on exercises of their choice through reading the sentence and choosing every single particle. Besides, it increases language awareness greatly by exposing students to authentic material such as this funny sentence. The focus is on grammar points towards reading for pleasure.
Thus, the more enjoyable is the L2 materials, the more meaningful for L2 learners are. Doing these exercises can give the student a sense of real achievement and a strong desire to try it again and do better.

In other words, this Fun phrase activity is a kind of proverb that foreign language learners as this of Y6 can incorporate in their use of English as an expression.

Jam drop biscuits recipe Gap-fill exercise

Age of children and level: From 9 to 10 years old, Year 6.
Skills of English they're going to practice: reading and writing.
Authoring tool: JCloze

The fact that I choose a gap-filling exercise to teach ESL students is because students can develop their reading skills on this website through authentic and useful content which is how to cook. I could cover a wide range of topics such as enjoyable and interesting recipes, such as baking cookies, and always aims to be tempting enough for students to redo the exercise. Students should improve their way of reading and using a dictionary.
Moreover, second language learners could develop an ability to guess, based on some form of assumption, then immediately see whether they were right or wrong. Finally, these students of Year 5 can easily get used to working independently and dealing with the task at their own speed.
